SO 0253-1652 - Currently in 23rd place
SO 0253-1652 is the 23rd closest system to Sol and is located in Aries, the Ram. SO 0253-1652 was first reported as recently as 2006 and consists of a red dwarf of spectral class M7.0 and with an estimated mass of only 8% that of the Sun.
Note how much brighter SO 0253-1652 is in the IR rather than V band - this is typical of a red dwarf and is well shown in this 120 second animation of IR and V band images.
