METHOD
Download all the entries from 2MASS All-Sky Catalog of Point Sources (Cutri+ 2003) that match the following criteria:
Declination < 0
Galactic latitude > 10 (to avoid the crowded areas near the galactic plane).
2MASS J band magnitude between 10 and 11.
Photometric Quality = "AAA".
No artifact or extended source contamination.
No association with asteroid or comet.
J v's (J-K) magnitudes plotted for a sample of 32,000 qualifying entries.

Positional information used as a source file for matching with DENIS entries.
Curiously only 25,267 matching 2MASS and DENIS entries out of 32,000 (c79%) using 3 arc sec search.

Comparing the J and K band magnitudes from the two sources.
Where it was possible to make a reliable match the avarage difference in the magnitudes was calculated.
| J band (2MASS - DENIS) | K band (2MASS - DENIS) |
| -0.0343 | +0.0015 |

Targets of Interest - download the spreadsheet
Targets were identified on the basis of the difference in J and K band magnitudes between the two sources.

Currently only a small sample of the original 2MASS entries have been cross-linked to DENIS entries. Many more possible targets will doubtless be identified when all the qualifying stars are checked.
Over the last few years I have carried out many astronomical data mining or data analysis projects. Most remain unpublished and this series of papers aims to put them all into the public domain. I welcome constructive feedback from readers and encourage colleagues to take the work forward, perhaps as far as peer reviewed publication. I can be contacted by email. and this address is monitored daily.
