NGC 2359 - More big images from small telescopes

NGC 2359, Thor's Helmet an emission nebula in Canis Major

An extremely hot Wolf-Rayet star excites this faint wind-blown nebula in Canis Major.

This 20 x 20 arc minute image was created by combining 30 minutes of Hydrogen Alpha (red) with the the same time in SII (green) and OIII (blue). All images taken with a Takahashi Epsilon 250mm F/3.8 astrograph and an ST-8XE CCD camera.

There is strong Hydrogen Alpha and OIII emission as can be seen in the animation.
