M55 (NGC 6809) is a large but loose globular cluster which makes it resolvable even in small telescopes. M55 was originally discovered by Lacaille in 1752 and Messier found and cataloged it in 1778. It has a diameter of about 110 light-years and at 20000 light years distance is one of the closest globular clusters.
