M62 - Globular Cluster in Ophiuchus

This image was created by median combining 7 x 90 second unfiltered images taken with a Takahashi Epsilon 250 with SBIG ST-8XE CCD. The image has been cut down to be 20 x 20 arc minutes in size.

M 62 (NGC 6266) was discovered in 1771 by Messier. It is one of the most irregularly shaped globular clusters due to its proximity to the galactic centre. At 28,400 light years away it has a diameter of about 100 light-years.
