Blazar 3C 66A Nova Monitoring Supernova in NGC 1058 Targets of Opportunity

Return to the Nova, Supernova and Targets of Opportunity front page

Over the last couple of years I have done dozens of mini projects and I hope that in the months to come most, if not all, of these will appear on this web site. Ideas for short term projects come from many sources. The Variable Star of the Season as produced by the AAVSO is always useful because it can be relied upon to cover the what, why and how of what needs to be done. Nearly as useful are the Observing Campaigns that are launched at irregular intervals.

There does seem to be a shortage of places where such short projects can be documented via refereed publication. It has been said, with some justifaction, that if research doesn't result in a Simbad and/or a ADS/CDS entry it is as if the work had never been done! This very much implies that publication on a website is not enough on its own.

An uncatalogued dark nebula in Monoceros? - 06 40 49 +09 01 11

This 8 x 8 arc min dark nebulae was discovered by accident on the edge of a series of images taken of the variable star R MON in 2005. This DSS image shows the object quite nicely.

A search in Simbad doesn't show any dark nebula listed in this position.
